ICL Student Perspectives: Sara

ICL Student Perspectives showcases writing by ICL Students about their experience at an online school.

My name is Sara , and I am an ICL student in the 8th grade. I joined ICL when I was in 7th grade, and that was the first year ICL became a School. In the beginning of last year, there were 4 people (including me) in my class.
It was just the 4 of us for all of our seminars, and I became close friends with all of them. To this day I am still in touch, both out, and in seminars, with all of them. It was easy making friends last year because there were so few of us.
This year, about 10 more kids joined each of my classes. I made some new friends in my classes. We would use the chat box to get each others phone numbers or snaps, and we would be constantly texting out of school.
Some of us share hobbies, and we would meet during tournaments. For me, making friends was the same as making friends in my old brick and mortar school.
I do  service leadership projects, and I think that ICL has grow to help me use my responsibility skills that I have learned through being in an online school, in my day to day life. I teach tennis to kids with down syndrome once every 2-3 months, and I teach kids under the age of 10 through my tennis academy.
I have grown to love all of the kids I teach, and most of the kids my age are too busy with their cell phone’s and their games, they forget the meaning of life. I have to admit, I do use my phone quite a bit, but I do limit myself.
I would like to pass on my learnings to other people because I started out without knowing what I could do to make the world a better place, but now I know my purpose, and I can use my passion, in helping others.
I have grown as both a tennis player, and a person because of all of the advantages that ICL Academy supports me with.
I meet with  world champions monthly, and our principle comes out to tournaments and support us the best that he can.
I am very thankful and appreciative of the platform that ICL has given me, and I truly believe that this school can help anyone fulfill their passion, and even support those who don’t quite know what they want to be when they are older.
